I have opined that for those of us who are "under" grace
the keeping of the laws of God are not a means of obtaining
righteousness, but are an expression of the truly faithful heart of one
who is allowed to participate in the glory of God.
Unfortunately, for some, this is falsely interpreted to
mean that God does not "care" about "obedience" anymore. They might
assert that one who is "under" grace is not accountable to God's laws,
since law may no longer condemn those who are "under" grace.
First, one who takes such a cavalier attitude towards
the revelation of God certainly may not qualify as one who "yields"
himself, "trusts" God, is a "diligent seeker" of God, has "true" (James
2) faith in God.
Second, failing to recognize and submit to truth is
deadly. God has provided his promises for our hope and encouragement.
Without their recognition and influence in our lives, we are liable to
wither. God has provided his moral laws for our instruction in
righteousness. They are certainly listed as salvation-killers when
violated. God has shown us how the New Testament church worked and
worshipped. Failure to conform to the patterns of the early church
causes many to fall from the true gospel, to be "weak and sickly, and
to sleep".
The slightest deviation from truth is a foothold for
Satan to creep into our lives, ever so slowly, and to poison us quietly
as we live on in blissful ignorance, until it is too late.
I am convinced that truth is the tonic of life, the
prescription for eternal life, the "owner's manual" for our minds and
souls. Those who seek the ways of God search for truth like one who
searches for hidden treasure.
