Finding truth can be difficult, and it is even more challenging when we fail to pay attention or refuse help in seeing the big picture. To illustrate the problem of making decisions as to what the truth is on a matter before first carefully considering the available evidence, I recently posted a meme called "Which cup fills up first?" The meme says 99 percent will fail to answer the question correctly. Based on my own response and the other responses I saw, that figure seems to be pretty accurate.
After looking carefully at the meme, but without enlarging it or putting on my glasses, I became "certain" the answer was number 5. Then someone pointed out that the pipe leading to that cup is blocked-something I failed to see. Wanting to know the truth, I enlarged the picture and was able to see that I had picked the WRONG cup and that only one cup would actually fill up.
Along with others, I tried to help people see the truth, but most persisted in expressing their opinion without "looking at the big picture" or listening to those of us who knew the answer. The people who got it right either were careful and used what was available to them in their investigation, or they listened to and accepted help from others-working as a team. Unfortunately, most did not even read what others were saying and therefore their answer was incorrect.
Oh, you might be wondering how I can know for sure that the number I chose is the right one. Well, someone posted a link to a YouTube video that showed the answer. But those who did not receive that person's help (maybe because they had set a policy that they will not follow a link) continued to be in error. This included individuals who had already posted an incorrect answer as well as new posters.
Now, does this not well illustrate the problem of lack of unity, and the reason it does not exist, among Christians on various issues? People do not "look at the big picture." They do not seek out the source that gives the answer (the Bible), and they do not listen to and receive help from others.
