In his fourth year at a congregation, the preacher preceded his sermon with an observation. He stated that he had looked at the records and discovered that the last six preachers had not lasted two years. Hoping to get an ego boost, he stuck his chest out and said, "Why is it that I have lasted longer here than the last six preachers?"
One of the elders replied, "Most of us here don't want a preacher at all and you are the nearest to nothing that we have ever had."
