Since I am unknown to many of you, Robert has suggested that I might provide a brief introduction prior to sending my first article in our debate. I was born in Decatur, Alabama, in 1948. After graduating from The University of Alabama (B.S., mathematics major) in 1970, I married Jerretta Barber, who has now been my wonderful partner for 35 years. We have one son, Tommy (an electrical engineer in Huntsville), and two grandsons (Andrew and Luke). I later completed a master's degree and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership. I am currently a doctoral student in instructional leadership at The University of Alabama, having completed all course work and in the final stage of writing my dissertation.
I work full-time as an elementary school administrator, publish religious books (especially debates), and serve as evangelist with the North Huntsville (Alabama) church of Christ. I began preaching in March 1966, having presented approximately 8500 lessons in 16 states and Australia. I had been privileged to participate in approximately 100 formal debates on many different topics, of which about ten have been published in books or periodicals. My favorite debate topic is creation/evolution.
I look forward to the discussion of divorce and remarriage with brother Waters. My goals are to consider what Robert presents as objectively as I possibly can, to accept everything that I find to be in harmony with God's truth, and to oppose everything I find to be error. I view debating as one form of Bible study, and I will conduct my part of the discussion from that perspective.
Brotherly,
Thomas Thrasher
