Total Health: Caring For The Whole Person

A website for optimum spiritual and physical health by Robert Waters

Many people place a great deal of importance on either their physical or spiritual well-being and development, but rarely does an individual place appropriate emphasis on both. Man has both physical and spiritual needs and to neglect the needs of either side of our nature affects the whole man and is not caring for the whole person. Our aim here is to stress the well-being of the whole man. In keeping with this goal, this site offers a wide variety of material pertaining to the well-being of both body and spirit. There are several Scriptures that highlight how essential it is to exercise both the body and spirit for optimum health. A person may feed the soul by regularly availing himself of every opportunity to hear the word of God, but the real benefit is derived only when this is combined with the doing or exercising of such knowledge. Likewise, a person may feed the body with all the essential nutrients, but if this is not combined with physical exercise then one is unlikely to derive the real benefits that such a combination affords. Therefore, we stress the need for both nutrition and exercise for the body and the spirit.

Should the purpose of our endeavor to be healthy be only to feel good and have a good time in life? Certainly, good health contributes to these things. But the real purpose for a long and healthy life is for us to be better servants of God. Each child of God has been given talents which enable them to fulfill their part in God's work and to spread the gospel of Christ to others. Jesus came that we might have a more abundant life (John 10:10), here and now and for eternity. So no matter what kind of physical body you have to work with, follow God's principles and live life the fullest, always abounding in the work of the Lord (I Corinthians 15:58).
